Electrostatic Interactions: Types of charge; Coulomb's Law and units of charge. Concept of Electric Field. Electric field lines. Faraday's ice pail experiments. Gold leaf electroscope.

Electric potential energy and potential difference. Potential and Intensity. Equipotential lines and surfaces. The electron volt. Electrostatic generators. Capacitors and Capacitance. Dielectrics. Capacitors in series and parallel, Energy stored in capacitors.
Current Electricity: Electric current and current density. Sources of e.m.f. Resistivity and resistance. Linear and nonlinear circuit elements. Energy and power in electric circuits. Power conversion.
Single Loop circuits. Series and parallel circuits. Kirchoff's Laws. Multiloop circuits. Measurement of resistance. The Wheatstone Bridge circuit. R - C circuits.

Magnetic phenomena. Magnetic flux. Force on moving charge in magnetic field. Magnetic force on current; Magnetic torque on current loop; the galvanometer.

Magnetic field produced by currents. Biob-Savart Law; Ampere's Law. Field due to solenoid and toroid. Properties of magnetic materials.
Electromagnetic Induction; Faraday's Law. Lenz's law. Mutual and self inductance. Generators and motors. Transformers.

Assessment is by assignments and examination.
